Leadership
Leadership
Leadership may be understood in multiple ways, but leadership in Learning and Education is based on a philosophy of the nobleness of the human spirit and soul, and the persistence and steadfastness of people in maximizing their potential.
What motivates people – what makes them tick – is a subject of perennial fascination. It is especially important for leaders in the educational industry to think about this question in some depth. However, Leadership embraces more than motivation:
• Leaders make decision and announce it
• Leaders sell decision
• Leaders present ideas and invite questions
• Leaders present tentative decision subject to change
• Leaders present problems, get suggestions, make decisions
• Leaders define limits, ask group to make decisions
• Leaders permit subordinates to function within limits defined by superior
Lead we must and lead we shall, but in a way that exalts the self-esteem of people and recognizes the sacredness of their happiness on earth. Those leaders demonstrate a resolute determination to give shape to the vitality of people and lead them in good purposes, looking within their own hearts, overcome their own ignorance, and face outward to move the world.
When people think of leaders in an organization, they often think of people in high-ranking position such as the CEO, president, or general manager. While people in such positions might be leaders, it is important to understand that leaders exist at various levels in an organization, not just at the top!
