Learning Infrastructure

Course Infrastructure

Here, we mean the course infrastructure which is mainly important for blended learning and eLearning settings. There are a couple of solutions out there, commercial Learning Managament Systems (LMS) or Learning Content Management Systems (LCMS), but also non-commercial Open Source. Also the range of purchasing or renting an infrastructure is very large.

All of the current LMS or LCMS are offering user, course and file management. Beyond the standard functions, the LMS differ in the communication tools they are offering e.g. Web 2.0 links, the tracking of the learner progress and its impact on the organisation (through reports).

More elaborated LMS are offering also a good management for job profiles (e.g. by department), skill management, ePortfolios, certifications and much more.

The selection of the right course infrastructure is absolutely crucial and it is strongly recommended to not just go for the first solution but to base the decision on a detailed requirement analysis.
